Cafe, The Sound.
This project involved the creation of a new café at The Sound, one of the Isle of Man’s most prominent coastal locations overlooking the Calf of Man. The scheme enhances visitor facilities while responding sensitively to the dramatic coastal landscape. The design adopts a contemporary contextual approach, incorporating the existing stone building into an iconic circular plan form reminiscent of a Viking roadhouse. Extensive glazing is used to maximise the panoramic coastal views, while new internal and external seating areas allow visitors to fully experience the surrounding landscape. Care was taken to ensure the building sits comfortably within its exposed environment, using robust materials and a simple architectural language suited to the character of the site. The project enhances the visitor experience at The Sound while providing modern café facilities for both residents and tourists visiting this now iconic Manx landmark.
