Our Process

We structure our projects in line with the Royal Institute of British Architects Plan of Work, a recognised framework that guides a project from the initial idea through to completion on site.

  • We meet with you to establish and agree the project brief. This includes discussing your objectives, reviewing the site, identifying any constraints, and outlining the scope of the project. Based on the agreed brief, we then prepare our fee proposal and confirm the scope of architectural services, and other other information we will require.

  • We prepare initial design proposals based on the agreed brief. These explore layout, scale, form and appearance, helping establish the overall architectural concept.
    Once the initial designs are prepared, we meet with you to review the proposals, discuss the options and agree any refinements before progressing the design to the next stage.

  • The design is developed in greater detail, refining the layout, materials and external appearance of the building. At this stage we may coordinate the design with other consultants. Once the design is agreed, we prepare the drawings and supporting information required for the planning application and submit this on your behalf.

  • Part 1 – Building Regulations Submission
    Following planning approval, we prepare the drawings and information required for the Building Regulations and submit this to Building Control. This stage demonstrates that the proposed design complies with the relevant building regulations.

    Part 2 – Technical Design
    Depending on the level of information you require on the project, we then develop the design into a detailed technical package. This includes construction drawings and specifications that allow the project to be accurately priced and constructed in collaboration with a Cost Consultant. Alternatively, some clients prefer to engage directly with a builder themselves at this stage.

  • Once a contractor has been appointed, construction works begin on site. During this stage we can act as Contract Administrator, carrying out periodic site inspections to monitor progress and help ensure the works are being carried out in accordance with the approved drawings and specifications. We also administer the building contract, review contractor information, respond to queries during construction and certify payments as the works progress. Alternatively some of our clients manage their contractor themselves.
