External Landscaping, St Thomas’s Church
This project reimagines the main entrance and access to St. Thomas’s Church in Douglas, providing Part M and DDA compliant access while carefully retaining the historic character of the building and enhancing the arrival experience for both visitors and the congregation. While visually coherent with the historic fabric, the existing stepped arrangement presents a significant barrier to users with mobility impairments, wheelchair users and those with ambulatory needs. The proposals introduce a new level access route to the main entrance, improving accessibility and usability while retaining the existing stepped access and the overall character of the frontage and boundary treatment. The design carefully balances modern accessibility requirements with the preservation of the building’s historic setting. The project is currently at planning application and registered building consent stage.
