Social & Learning Collaborative Commons, Coventry
This project involved the infill of an existing courtyard at Coventry College to create a new Social and Learning Commons – a flexible collaborative space designed to support teaching, learning, group study and events. The new facility provides an informal hub for students and staff, encouraging interaction and creating an active focal point within the campus. The courtyard infill transforms previously underused external space into a light-filled internal environment that supports modern methods of learning and collaboration. The adaptable layout allows the space to be used for teaching, informal study, student collaboration and college events.
From a standing start in January 2025, enabling works and design development progressed in tandem. Key construction packages, including the structural steel frame, were ordered less than two months after the initial concept stage. Through close coordination between the contractor, design team and client, the design and construction stages overlapped to meet a demanding programme. Students were welcomed into the new Social and Learning Commons at the start of the academic year in September 2025, achieving delivery from concept to completion in under nine months.
