Loft Conversion, Baldrine

This project involved the comprehensive remodelling and loft conversion of an existing bungalow to create a spacious four-bedroom family home. The original property provided just two bedrooms and limited living space. Through careful design and reconfiguration, the house was transformed to accommodate modern family living while maintaining a balanced and well-proportioned appearance.

A new roof form with traditional cottage-style dormer windows was introduced to create a first-floor level, significantly increasing the usable floor area and allowing the accommodation to expand from two bedrooms to four. The dormers were designed in keeping with a cottage character, helping the new upper floor sit comfortably within the overall proportions of the house while adding visual interest to the roofscape.

Internally, the layout was reworked to provide generous living spaces with improved natural light and better connections to the surrounding garden with the addition of external sun terraces.

Externally, the design retains a simple, contextual character, using materials and proportions that sit comfortably within the surrounding residential area. The result is a contemporary yet sympathetic transformation that maximises the potential of the original property while creating a practical long-term family home.
