Manx National Heritage Visitors Hub
This project involves the refurbishment of No.1 Market Square in Castletown for Manx National Heritage, creating a new visitor hub, retail space and office accommodation within an important historic building at the heart of the town centre. The proposals aim to breathe new life into the existing property while carefully preserving its historic character and strengthening the visitor and tourism offering within the Island’s ancient capital.
The ground floor will provide a welcoming admissions and retail hub where visitors can obtain information and purchase tickets for Manx National Heritage sites across the Island. The space has also been designed to support small-scale workshops and events during quieter periods, helping showcase local artisan producers and reinforce the role of Market Square as a vibrant civic destination. The upper floor will provide modern self-contained office accommodation for approximately 8–10 people, bringing additional daily activity into the town centre and supporting local businesses through increased footfall and secondary spending.
The project demonstrates how sensitive refurbishment and adaptive reuse can help preserve historic buildings while allowing them to continue serving contemporary community, cultural and economic needs. The project is currently under construction.
