Mannanan Court, Nobles Hospital, Douglas

This project involved the design of a new-build adult secure psychiatric unit providing specialist accommodation for mental health care within a controlled and safe environment. The facility was designed to support patient wellbeing while meeting the strict operational and security requirements associated with secure healthcare settings. The scheme carefully balances clinical functionality, patient safety and therapeutic design principles, creating spaces that support treatment, recovery and day-to-day care. The layout incorporates patient accommodation, staff facilities and shared therapeutic spaces arranged to provide clear supervision and safe circulation. McGarrigle Ayre Architects worked as part of the wider design team to develop a facility that meets modern healthcare standards while providing a safe and supportive environment for both patients and staff.
